On Eid al-Adha, which took place yesterday, Fahd Ghazy longed to - TopicsExpress

On Eid al-Adha, which took place yesterday, Fahd Ghazy longed to spend the day with his wife and daughter, and the rest of his family in their village in Yemen. Instead, he celebrated in a windowless cell in Camp Echo with his CCR attorney. Fahd was brought to Guantanamo when he was 17 and despite being cleared for transfer by both the Bush and Obama administrations, he remains trapped there. He hasn’t seen his family in almost 12 years. When he last met with his legal team in May, Fahd was beginning the fourth month of his hunger strike and had lost over 30 percent of his body weight. Like a majority of prisoners, Fahd was peacefully protesting the unjust conditions of his confinement through the only means he had available. We can’t forget the message that the mens protest so powerfully relayed to the world. The human cost is too great. We must continue to demand that President Barack Obama expeditiously transfer men out of Guantanamo, including Fahd and the other Yemenis. Please help us. By sharing this post and Fahds story with your friends, you are helping us ensure that he and the rest of the men at Guantanamo are not forgotten.
