On Emancipation Day I do not feel personally grateful for much. I - TopicsExpress

On Emancipation Day I do not feel personally grateful for much. I prefer to cast my imagination back to those black people 400 years ago who had no access to education, housing, fair employment, freedom of religion and even to a chance to practice the right to have and nurture a family. I feel sad and sorry for those who toiled under whips of oppression. Anything that I can deem oppression personally pales in comparison to the oppression that those people were put under. Today I remember them, and it is even more sad when I think about the black man today; a man who mostly has his priorities mixed up, a man who pulls down another black man 3 times faster than he thinks a good thought about another black man, or say a positive word or advise another black brother instead of pulling him apart. Today, I see black people in droves being consumers, supporters, customers; always afraid to take risks, having too much false pride to start a business from scratch becausehow it go look? Today I see a black man who believes that hating others is just because of what others did to black people. A black man who mostly has yet to gain freedom simply due to his failure to grasp the Bob Marley line..None but ourselves can free our minds.
