On FB, you can be what you want, no matter how false it is. You can make people believe what you want, although its not reality. Today, Ive been married to Carole Tomes Jakes for 16 years, and it hasnt always been the beautiful picture my profile pic represents. Weve had some awesome times, and thats usually what you see. But weve also fought, cried, Ive contemplated divorce, had many disagreements, not talked for a couple of days, had plenty of hurt feelings, power struggles, misunderstandings, etc. Yep, thats the reality!!!! But through it all, 16 years later, here we are!!! Marriage is hard as heck. However, to deal with the hard as heck, it takes two people who are determined to fight against the hard as heck. Love alone didnt get us to 16 years; it was the ruthless aggression to conquer the challenges of marriage. This is what has us here. A spirit of not giving up. A spirit of determination. A spirit of fighting for it, as hard as we fought each other. This is why we celebrate 16 years today! No, Im not going to make it seem as if marriage is all FB pretty, and everyday is like my profile pic; its not. But when all is said and done, and theres nothing left to say or do, were still here, and were still adding days. Happy Anniversary, Lady Carole!
