On Facebook....there is a lot to be sick of: political posturing, idiotic repetitions of bogus news, and people who seem to think we are dying to know what their food looks like before they eat it....I could go on and on. But what I am particularly sick of right now as we start the long downhill slide to the new year is people, many of them my theatre friends, generating hateful posts about the Live TV Sound of Music. Now I am a die-hard musical theatre fan....those recordings represent the majority of my music collection. And I am fond of Sound Of Music....although it is a bit old-school for my taste, I think it has stood the test of time. And even though the cast might not be what I would have chosen, I dont think they will unseat its place in the Musical Theatre pantheon. And yet the same people who obsessively post about DWTS have continually rattled on about how awful it will be and how it should never have been done....you know what? Both of those statements are bullshit. Personally...I dont know it will be horrible...you know why? BECAUSE I HAVENT SEEN IT YET. I dont think re-imagining a stage classic with names that might bring in an audience that couldnt be bothered to watch the film is a bad idea. Who knows? It might make some of them want to go see a show! I think its exciting to take TV back to its roots and present something live. And I think with Broadway shows costing 13 million dollars to produce, getting TV money to stand up and pay attention isnt a bad idea either. Again, I dont know if it will be good, or great, or terrible...but I DO know I have already seen worse productions of the show than the one that will air on the 5th....and rather than wasting my time griping about it, I think I will instead be grateful that musical theatre AND TV are trying something new and perhaps I will tune in....and that is amazing, since I never watch TV. So watch...or dont....but quit griping....you are starting to sound like a bunch of spoiled children who are pissed because Mom made you let the new kid on the block into the club treehouse.....GROW UP!
