On Friday, 22 members of the upcoming Freshman Class at Gettysburg College gathered at the Sherfy Garden to assist the Gettysburg Foundation(under the supervision of Ray Matlock, Volunteer Manager) in transitioning the garden from summer to fall. They picked the remaining summer crops, pulled weeds and tilled the soil, among other duties. Students pitched in from around the country and the world hailing from California, China and Kansas, for example. Ray also educated the students of the historical significance of the house, garden and surrounding battlefield. The organic harvest from the Sherfy Garden is all donated to Gettysburg College’s Campus Kitchen. Just this month alone, the garden has produced nearly 700 pounds of produce for the Kitchen!
