On Friday, 29 August the Pápa Air Base Heavy Airlift Wing celebrated its fifth anniversary. About 25 Dutch military officers and their family are stationed at the base. Ambassador Gajus Scheltema and Second Secretary Lyske van der Werf represented the Netherlands Embassy during the well-attended ceremony. The Heavy Airlift Wing is a cooperation between 10 NATO-members and 2 NATO Partnership for Peace nations. The three C-17 military airplanes at Pápa have been used during several military and missions, such as ISAF and NATO operations in Libya as well as humanitarian operations during the natural disasters in Haiti and Pakistan. The cooperation will continue for at least another 25 years.
