On Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12, Trinity Health Sports Medicine sponsored a North Dakota Athletic Trainer’s Association seminar. The purpose of the seminar was to help schools, recreational organizations and emergency personnel prepare and plan how to manage a mass casualty situation in an athletic environment. Dr. Wanda Swiger, an athletic trainer who was working the finish line at the Boston Marathon last year when a terrorist attack killed three people and injured more than 200, was the headline speaker. Robyn Gust, Trinity Sports Medicine Manager, also presented. Additionally, members of a panel comprised of various community professionals discussed the role each of their respective organizations would play in a mass casualty event. The panel included Randy Schwan, Trinity Health Vice President; DeVawn Beckman, Minot Central Dispatch; Capt. John Klug, Minot Police Department; Chief CJ Craven, Minot Fire Department; Marcy Rose, Minot Community Ambulance; and Amanda Schooling, Ward County Emergency Management.
