On Friday, April 4, 2014 at 6:47 pm, Park Forest Police were notified by the Illinois State Police that their headquarters had received a call from a subject who stated that he was at a house on the 400 block of Shabbona Street in Park Forest and that he had shot his mother. After some further communication, the police officer who took the call reported hearing a loud bang, and then was unable to make further contact with the caller. Park Forest Police responded to the area, set up a perimeter around the home and the South Suburban Emergency Response Team (SSERT) responded. After further investigation, it was determined that the residents, who were not home at the time, but were later located, were unharmed and the call was unfounded. The Park Forest Police Detective Division will be investigating the false report as a criminal matter.
