On Friday I got bored and wrote down all the calculations to figure out the sphere of influence of Earth, which was about 1500000 km or so if I remember correctly. To summarise, the sphere of influence is the spatial area around an object in which its gravitational force is stronger than another gravitation force the said object orbits. This is why the moon orbits the earth rather than flying directly into the sun. Anyway, I was going to find the sphere of influence of the moon to see if its hypothetically possible to throw a ball or something off the surface and out of its gravitational pull.
