On Friday, June 13, 2014, at 9:13 pm, White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company and other area companies were dispatched to the area of Cowenton Ave and Interstate 95 in White Marsh for the report of a person stuck in mud in the woods. Two juveniles were exploring the woods of Honeygo Regional Park. During heavy rainfall, one got stuck in mud above his knee near the banks of Honeygo Run. The other hiked out of the woods and knocked on doors of several houses looking for help. Upon finding an occupied home, the owner called 911. Units from White Marsh, Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company, Fullerton, Hillendale, and Texas fire stations, as well police, responded with personnel, a K9 dog, all terrain vehicle, inflatable boat, and urban search and rescue (USAR) trailer. During this time, there were also reports that the parents may have entered the woods searching and got lost themselves. Personnel from Engine 201 found one of the kids near the dispatched location, and hiked back into the woods looking for the one trapped. Upon locating the other juvenile after about 45 minutes, crews from Engine 201 dug by hand in the quicksand-like mud to free him. While exiting the woods, crews received word that the parents were located and were with police. Shortly thereafter, everyone was reunited. The juvenile who got stuck in the mud was evaluated by the EMS crew, and was transported to a nearby hospital.
