On Friday morning, we hosted a meeting of the U.S. Afghan-Womens Council in Healy Hall. This Council, a public-private partnership based here at Georgetown, is dedicated to advancing the role of women and girls in Afghanistan. I am deeply grateful to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former First Lady Laura Bush, for joining us on Friday and for their work as Honorary Co-Chairs. I also wish to thank Ambassador Cathy Russell, U.S. Ambassador-at-large for Global Womens Issues, for her support as Co-Chair, and Dr. Phyllis Magrab, Professor of Pediatrics here at Georgetown, for her leadership as Vice Chair. I look forward to all the work this important Council will continue to do in the time ahead.
