On Friday, we had to say to say goodbye to one of our best buddies, Luca Lore. Luca and my Brio began as 10 week old puppies going to puppy class together each week. It’s how I met and became great friends with his mom and dad, Colleen and Harry. Luca was a true miracle dog. After walking in the woods with us one day, Luca got home and collapsed. His spleen had ruptured and although he survived emergency surgery that day, the diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma was dire with a life expectancy of 4-6 months. Twenty-one months later, with rounds of chemo and an untold amount of love and care, Luca was still going strong. Then, just a few days ago, he began showing neurological signs which progressively got worse until his quality of life had diminished to the extent that his loving owners decided to relieve him of his suffering. It was a tremendously difficult decision especially because Luca had rebounded from other, equally threatening, conditions since his diagnosis. We all hoped this would be just another setback but sadly, it wasnt to be. Luca was a loving, charming dog with a silly prance and an obsession with his stuffed hedgehog. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the good fortune to have met and spent time with him. Godspeed Luca. Rest in peace. You were the best!
