On Friday we will be requesting that Seattle Schools re-assess our sons service model, placement and services. This request will be made to the psychologist at our neighborhood school who is familiar with our son, as he attended a developmental pre-school there during the 2012-2013 school year. She knows the request is coming in, we are waiting a final private assessment for autism which we will receive on Thursday. Is there anything I specifically need to request? Im assuming I should request this in writing? Is there language I should use? ... A bit more background: Our son is currently listed as an SM1 and will be placed in our neighborhood school in the fall. He has since had a diagnosis of ADHD and we are awaiting an autism diagnosis. We held him back a year for kindergarten after a failed attend at trying a Catholic school. We feel his service model is wrong and our IEP negotiation when we were planning on going to our neighborhood school was riddled with inappropriate feedback from our IEP team, including a great deal of push back on services they would offer him as well as comments such as Im not sure how we are going to serve this IEP with our staff. We also had a few questionable incidents in his class that showed us that the staff was not paying attention to his needs, and in fact, punishing him for his delays.
