On God, Jesus, Prosperity and Power: Isnt it interesting how God and Jesus seem to not put as much stock as we do in riches? In the seemingly powerful of this world? Especially during Jesus time on earth? It is almost as if they say, Money? Wealth? Power? Pshaw... we have the real thing and it is not what yall think it is...with your chariots and cars and mansions and chasing after cash/coin/gold... otherwise, why on earth would Jesus, a whole King with all the power to do and undo and perform miracles, choose to move around on foot, without bodyguards, and be homeless and rely on women to provide his needs? He did not even have coins on his person to pay a temple tax and had to send Peter to get it from a fish. What did He know that we, with all our fretting and chasing after prosperity and wealth do not? Are we perhaps missing the plot here? Interesting too how when Jesus was to be born, the angels did not go announcing it to the powers of the day - Herod, the High Priest, the governors etc. Instead, God sent messengers to poor shepherds and to foreign Magi. In modern day parlance, this means He ignored the likes of General Obasanjo, President GEJ, General Buhari, Pastors Oritsejafor, Adeboye and Oyedepo, Professors,Diplomats etc and went instead to unnamed shepherds or cattle herders in remote villages... there is a lesson there for us. The poor. Those of us who think we are something may really not be as powerful in Gods sight as we think we are. Just a thought there... hmmmm... Even Jesus did not bother to name the rich man in his famous story on Lazarus and the rich man - Bible scholars have had to call the man Dives... Latin for rich...wow. There is a lesson in that. Lastly, Jesus, after the religious leaders of His day who loved money sneered at Him for saying you cannot serve both God and money, had this to say to the Pharisees: You are the ones who justify yourselves before men but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination before God. - Luke 16:14-15 Hmmm. We and our prosperity preaching religious leaders will do well to remember this - all this our chasing after prosperity; all these big cars and mansions and foreign trips and designer whatevers and fake hair, boobs, etc that we are selling our souls to get... that will not mean jack after we die. Hmmm...Lord have mercy. I no fit shout.
