On Jan.16 KIMEP University hosted a press conference presenting the results of the project on Almaty public education. Maganat Shegebayev, Juldyz Smagulova, Elise S. Ahn and Shirin Mussayeva from KIMEP presented the results of their study titled Exploring Emergent Education Equity in Almaty which was funded by a grant during 2014 and administered by the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI). The presentation included set of findings and recommendations. There was an observable relationship between students educational aspirations and their school location, school language, gender, and family background. Based on the findings the research team has provided four recommendations for policy makers and researchers for further discussion: 1. Increasing the accessibility of publicly available information about educational institutions 2. Examination of what differences currently exist among Kazakh, Russian, and other language of instruction schools and work to harmonize school system 3. Formative evaluation examining what factors are contributing to increased gender disparity 4. Needs assessments among single-parent families
