On January 19 2015, the 4th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group begins the first leg of Exercise WESTERN SPIRIT II (WS II) in Snow lake Manitoba. During Ex WS II Canadian Rangers (CR) will cross the four Western provinces over a nine month period concluding on Vancouver Island in September. Ex WS II is an opportunity for the CRs to practice and demonstrate their capabilities and ability to meet their sovereignty and domestic operations tasks. CR patrols will navigate individual legs in all terrain and weather conditions, using many forms of transportation. A baton will be carried and passed over at each exchange point between patrols. The Manitoba portion of the exercise will be from 19 Jan - 28 Feb 15, beginning in Snow Lake and finishing on the border with SK near Lac Brochet. In nine legs, this portion of Ex WS II covers approximately 1950 km and will include about 130 Canadian Rangers. The first Ex WESTERN SPIRIT was conducted in the winter of 2009. During this exercise 4 CRPG conducted a long-range patrol covering over 3500 km from Kitimat, BC to Churchill MB via snowmobile. The progress of the exercise can be tracked online via the spot messenger which will accompany the baton as each patrol hands it over to the next. share.findmespot/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0XWiC8W8mjvlkgmRtirooee5fx2qjqjmg
