On January 21-26, the Mayan Intercultural Seminary will be hosting an Afro-Indigenous-Latin American and Caribbean Peace Conference in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. This event is developed in partnership and with the support of the Baptist Seminary of Mexico City, Palmer Theological Seminary (Valley Forge, PA) and the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America. The conference will gather Christian leaders from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico and the USA, representing a breadth of ethnic, social, economic and political contexts. The goal of the Conference is to develop a space for dialogue regarding the challenges and opportunities for peacemaking throughout the region. Ximena Ulloa Montemayor, a BPFNA board member, and a candidate in the Masters in Liturgical Studies program at the Mexico Theological Community, will be the worship coordinator for the event. Dr. Amaury Tañón-Santos, BPFNA Board President, will be making a presentation on the influence of Martin Luther King, Jr., on issues of racism and social justice, and will respond to presentations on border security and organized crime, and on Puerto Rico colonial political status. Please join us in praying for the success of this conference!
