On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded, killing all seven astronauts on board, including a teacher. President Reagan addressed the nation that evening; Peggy Noonan wrote his words. She drew inspiration from a poem called High Flight by John Gillespie Magee, Jr., a pilot who died in World War II. We will never forget them, not the last time we saw them this morning as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God.
