On July 22, 1971, my first baby girl was born. She was 3 months premature, weighed 1 pound- 4oz, and she lived for only 4 hours. But in those 4 brief hours , a true miracle occurred! My life was forever changed for the better. I had truly become a mother! As I gazed upon her tiny perfect face which was beautiful beyond description, I experienced the most amazing boundless love that I have ever known! It literally leaped out of my heart and into hers and I knew it would last into eternity! Her perfect beautiful face is forever etched in my mind and heart. They talk about how a mother bonds with her infant after birth, and it is so true! The doctor said she was perfectly formed, a true complete baby but only in miniature baby doll size, but unfortunately her lungs were not developed enough to sustain life with the medical technology available at the time. Fortunately, both her grandmothers, and her great aunt and uncle were at the hospital on the evening of her birth, and they got to behold her beauty, too! But unfortunately, because her birth was so sudden, her father was in San Diego for naval training, and he never got to see her. Her family never got to hold her in their arms, but we will forever hold her in our hearts! Happy Birthday, my dear little angel, Stephanie Margret! You are gone from this life, but you are never forgotten! Your Mommy loves you into infinity and eternity!
