On July 26th CG Jung was born, so was Sir Mick Jagger, Rebecca - TopicsExpress

On July 26th CG Jung was born, so was Sir Mick Jagger, Rebecca St. James (Christian pop/rock singer/composer and author of many books), and Mozart’s youngest son (sixth child) F.X.W. Mozart, who was quite a good composer, actually. But, as I try to do, I am dodging the obvious musical choices. So, I have found a person whose work we sing all year long, but whose name many of us have never heard, and if we have, it was all too quickly forgotten. I mean the man who wrote, “I love you a bushel and a peck”, “Baby, it’s cold outside”, all the music and lyrics for the musical, Hans Christian Andersen, and Irving Berlin’s favorite song that he didn’t write, “I don’t want to walk without you”, one of Miles Davis’s favorites, “If I were a bell”. To these, add “What are you doing, New Year’ Eve?”. His songlist is incredible. He “scored” on Broadway, in Hollywood, and in concert. The man I mean is Frank Loesser—a man greater than his relative anonymity deserves. (I know that FL is listed as having died on July 26 and 28, so I am just going to say it’s today and beg his shade’s forgiveness if I chose wrongly). I tried to pick one song from “Guys and Dolls”, but couldn’t—so just watch the whole original film with Frank, Marlon, Jean, and Vivian. Until then, here for today is Marlene Dietrich’s signature song from Destry Rides Again, “See what the boys in the backroom will have”.
