On July 28, 2009, #Iraqi forces, complying with order of #Irans Ali Khamenei, launched a deadly attack against defenseless #CampAshraf. 11 Ashraf residents were killed, nearly 500 wounded and 36 taken hostage. In prison, the 36 began a hunger strike and demanded immediate release. Hundreds in Ashraf and abroad also began a hunger strike making the same demands. The 36 were later tried for bogus charges. An Iraqi judge, however, ruled for their immediate release on three occasions. The Prime Ministers Office defied the ruling and transferred the hostages to a notorious military prison. On October 7, the Iraqi Government finally bowed to the unflinching resolve of the 36 hostages and to the universal condemnation of the assault and freed the hostages. After 72 days of hunger strike in captivity, the 36 hostages triumphantly, but in very poor health, were brought back to Ashraf, where they were received a huge welcome. All of them were at once taken to Ashrafs medical center. Victory for #Freedom & #Justice
