On June 6, 2011 I traveled over to Joplin, Missouri to see the devastation left behind from an EF-5 tornado that struck the area on May 22, 2011. I was speechless, and learned a lesson that day about the power of mother nature. It was important to me to document the destruction to fully grasp what these powerful storms can do. This was not my first tour of tornado damage. But it is the most devastating tornado aftermath that I ever documented from a powerful tornado. I couldnt believe my eyes. What stood out the most was the hospital, and the truck or whatever wrapped around a tree trunk. Imagine cars flying in the air like missiles. I was sick to my stomach of the images on TV from the area, but to be there at ground zero trying to take it all in was surreal. No one can tell you they know how it was unless they were there experiencing it all. I cant even fathom how it would be at the time of the tornado. Pure hell! The tornado formed within seconds. It went from an area of rotation to a full fledged multiple-vortex tornado. It took 158 lives. An EF-5 tornado which is the top of the scale or highest classification of tornadoes. Everything I remembered about Joplin of the past was gone! I did not recognize anything anymore. I fully respect mother nature, and continue to document extreme weather and storms today. I find it hard to even post this video, and usually put it to the side, but it is important to share. So here it is again.
