On March 15, 2013 -- one year ago -- House Republicans shot down a bill to raise the federal minimum wage. Gradually raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour would raise the wages of nearly 28 million low-wage workers, pumping $22 billion into the economy and creating 85,000 jobs over three years from increased consumer demand. So what have House Republicans spent the last year doing that was more important? Its hard to say, but they did just take their seventeenth vote in the last year alone -- and fifty-second overall -- to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act. This is why we need a huge group of supporters to show their support for a raise for America now, as were about to introduce the Fair Minimum Wage Act in the Senate. Thank you for adding your name at ARaiseForAmerica/schumer. Will you help grow our effort by getting three friends to add their names and join you? Republicans may try to focus our attention on their usual complaints, but the fact is, the decline of middle-class incomes and the barriers average people face trying to get good-paying jobs have become the number one problem in our political economy today. Together, were working with supporters of Daily Kos and dozens of my colleagues and their supporters to take action -- including Senators Tom Harkin, Barbara Boxer, Sherrod Brown, Kirsten Gillibrand, Heidi Heitkamp, Mazie Hirono, Patrick Leahy, Claire McCaskill, Jeff Merkley, Jack Reed, Jeanne Shaheen, Tom Udall, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Ron Wyden. The more support we can show for a raise for America, the better our chances of passing this bill – or if Republicans succeed in blocking it, the more likely voters will hold them accountable in November. President Obama has already taken executive action to raise the minimum wage for employees of companies that receive federal contracts. Now we need to pass a raise for the rest of America. Make sure three of your friends join you in thanking President Obama and supporting a raise for America. Ask them to go to ARaiseForAmerica/schumer today. The tectonic plates of our politics have shifted. By the time the elections roll around, issues like job creation, minimum wage, and unemployment insurance are going to weigh most heavily on the minds of voters. Thanks for your support, Chuck Schumer
