On March 18, 1953, in the middle of Spring Training, it was announced by Lou Perini, owner of the Boston Braves, that the franchise would be moving to Milwaukee. It was the first franchise move in MLB in almost 50 years. As the Braves had only drawn 281K in their final season in 1952, the writing was on the wall. Luckily, their plan to let the young kids in their system mature on the ML level that year paid off. When they arrived, the City of Milwaukee gave the club a parade downtown. The 1952 attendance mark was shattered before May arrived, and 1.8 million would ultimately go through the County Stadium gates, in a year that the young, talented club fought a surprising pennant race with the Dodgers.
