On March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing went missing after disappearing from radar and losing contact with the air traffic control tower. On July 18, 2014, a bank officer noticed several strangely suspicious withdrawals and a transfer from 4 accounts belonging to passengers on that lost flight. After an investigation, it was learned that a bank officer and her husband conducted the transactions. The bank officer and her husband have been arrested for stealing, and the case is now being handled by the Attorney General’s office. The bank officer transferred a total of RM110,643 (over US$35,000) belonging to 4 of the missing passengers into another passengers account via Internet banking. The accounts belonged to 2 Chinese passengers, a Malaysian passenger, and the account of a cabin crew member. Police are still searching for a Pakistani national who is also believed to be involved in the case. The commercial airlines aircraft, a Boeing 777-200ER, was carrying 12 Malaysian crew members and 227 passengers from 15 nations, all still missing as the aircraft itself has to date not been found.
