On March of 1990 Lockheed Skunkworks was ordered to deliver their testbed SR-71-972 to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, without help from the USAF, Lockheed decided to set one last record for the SR-71, jigging 12,200 Gal of fuel on board, the aircraft made a heavyweight takeoff from Plant 42 did an excel over the timing gate near Ventura CA and tripped the timing gate over Maryland in 1HR:04 min, LA to DC in 1HR:04 min, the SR-71 972 set 4 world records that day.
