On May 21st 2013 we began the most challenging journey of your lives. A journey that flaunts heartache, manufactures horrific anxiety, and simply hurts to the core. Too many of us here tonight have shared in their own difficult experiences with cancer. Cancer doesn’t discriminate; this disease reaches all ages, gender, races and religions. As Klyde goes through his battles, my grandmother fights her own. Together they have a bond that can’t be broken…an understanding only those suffering with cancer can truly know. Although I’ve found, that cancer is a journey in which you have to choose to be the captain or it will take you crashing directly into the shore. We choose God, we choose hope, we choose awareness and we choose fighting to find a cure. With the good Lord’s intervention, Klyde’s prognosis is very good and is treatment is in excellent hands. He has some of the best healthcare providers in the nation; at a hospital that has been nothing less than astonishing. Klyde spends much of his time while in St. Louis flirting with numerous doctors and nurses, even occasionally being kidnapped at night to spend some time visiting at the nurses’ station. His uplifting personality is contagious, he’s honestly our inspiration. He has never known what it feels like to be healthy, but he’s resilient. Even on his worse days he smiles through his pain and as each moment passes we are closer to a pain-free, cancer-free baby boy. We wish that Klyde could be here to visit with you all this evening, although, with his recent chemo is counts are declining and it’s important to keep him germ free. Believe me, we are very proud and would love nothing more than to show him off! I didn’t know love until I knew my children. And, I didn’t know sorrow until I knew cancer. Yet somehow God has made opportunity for light to shine through the darkness, light that stems from each one of you. I couldn’t find the words to express the sincere appreciation we hold for our family, friends and this community; we are tremendously lucky to have all of you. A special thank you to my mother, who hasn’t left our side; and to my sister Misty, and those who helped her, for working so hard to put this together. The out pouring of love, prayers and support radiates a power like none I have ever experienced before. We have a very amazing little boy who happens to be blessed with amazing family, friends and community. Thank you so very much. We love you and may God be your captain too. Justin and Suni Adams
