On May 3 my son Hamish and his friends are doing a sponsored walk climbing Beinn Na Lap, one of Scotlands most remote munros. It is to raise money for his cousin Ben who is fundraising to have a brain operation in Switzerland. Ben was born with a condition called Cortical Dysplasia. An area of his brain did not develop in the way it should have causing a lesion on the inner part of his right frontal lobe. The most obvious result of this is that Ben has Epilepsy. He has had seizures since the age of three, when he was first diagnosed. Since then the seizures have got worse at each stage of his development. Ben rarely goes a day without suffering a seizure - the average is 2 - 3 per day. Some of these sizures can be life threatening.
