On May 4th, BUILD Peninsula held its 15th Annual Business Plan Competition in Cubberley Auditorium at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. Rebecca Tseng Smith, Associate Dean for External Relations, attended and was impressed by the contestants’ energy, poise and creativity. BUILD’s goal is to attract low-income, disengaged students through lessons in entrepreneurship to focus on a small business projects and aim for academic success. Freshmen take the BUILD elective class, learn business basics, form teams, and create achievable business plans that they will develop and implement throughout high school. In addition to forming a business, BUILD students receive academic support, test preparation and attend college tours. BUILD helps its students apply to at least four colleges, hopeful that most will be the first in their family to graduate from college.
