On Mcebo Sisulu and Wits Vuvuzela: I have always lamented the fact that Vuvuzela has degenerated to being a tabloid. Their obsession with the lives of student activists rather than the causes they pursue quite objectionable. Last year, for weeks on end the focus of a story would be pre-empting how the #Wits11 will be found guilty and subliminally portraying them in a bad light rather than giving space to the charged students to plead why they protested in the first instance. From years past, we have known Vuvuzela to have a fixation with painting the SRC in a bad light and many good deeds done by the SRC are left largely unknown to students as they are deemed uninteresting. This year, we saw ground-breaking journalism when they released saucy whatsapp conversations between an SRC member and an EFF member. Cover story even. My view of the campus newsletter has always been that it has done very little to stimulate intellectually the minds of Witsies or any of its readers. It is not an intellectual rendition of the state of affairs of the second best University in Africa. On Mcebo, Im disappointed that he lied to us about being a Sisulu (if the article is true). My suspicion is that he is a victim of deep-seated issues in his own life that he needs to discuss with specialists. He is our friend and he may not be well and fine. Lets be those people who help him.
