On Monday 6th Jan the Prime Minister hosted a reception for Community Champions at No. 10. I was asked to nominate two community champions from Blackpool North & Cleveleys. I nominated Joanne Goldsborough and Jayne Ward. Paul explains, “I was delighted to invite Jayne Wild, the Vicar of Cleveleys, and Joanne Goldsborough, Head Teacher at Moor Park Primary to thank them for their contribution to our local community. Jayne does a superb job in working with the incredibly diverse local community in Cleveleys, and her name crops up in a positive way everywhere I go because of her transparent commitment. Joanne’s work at Moor Park has seen the school blossom into not just an academically high-performing school, but also a welcoming and friendly environment. It’s not a school everyone passes as it’s not on a main route, but it’s certainly a school I hope parents in north Blackpool will give serious consideration too when it comes to looking for their child’s future education”. Jayne says, “It was the hugest honour, for both myself and the parish of Cleveleys, St Andrew, to be invited to attend the recent reception at Number 10 Downing Street. Whatever a persons politics, to meet the Prime Minister of the country, in his home, is an honour. I feel incredibly humbled to have been nominated, and incredibly cheered at how sincerely delighted the congregation at St Andrews are. The evening was exciting and positive, and I feel I have a much greater connection, even from a fleeting meeting with the Prime Minster, with him as a person and also the difficulties of leading a nation. It has brought home to me just how much the whole religious community needs to be praying for those who are in Government, and again, no matter what our personal politics are. I really am very thankful to MP, Paul Maynard, for nominating me, and as I reflect on the huge numbers of people he could have asked, just become more and more humbled. Joanne adds, “I was honoured, if somewhat overwhelmed, to have been nominated on behalf of Moor Park Primary to attend the special event held at Number 10 Downing Street. The staff and children of our school were both delighted and excited at the prospect of their Headteacher meeting the Prime Minister of our country. Recognising the true accolade it was for our school. The children were keen for me to take a card for Mr Cameron and our Headboy and Headgirl also wrote him a letter. I was delighted, on my return, to be able to tell the staff and children that Mr Cameron opened their card and read their letter in front of me! I would like to thank MP Paul Maynard for nominating our school and for recognising the dedication and hard work of our entire school community.”
