On Monday 9th June (7th week) from 7pm in the Danson Room of Trinity College the Oxford Guild is hosting a unique and exciting forum with David Mepham, UK Director of Human Rights Watch, responsible for advocacy towards the UK government and parliamentarians and for the organisation’s dealings with the UK media. David will be speaking on the topic of “Human rights, human wrongs” and talk about the work of Human Rights Watch, drawing on examples from the Middle East, Africa and Asia. He will talk about the impact that human rights advocacy can have. He will also take on the human rights critics, those who suggest that rights are about the imposition of western values on other peoples. He was educated at the London School of Economics and Oxford University. This is an unprecedented opportunity to hear from and ask questions of such a high profile figure and promises to be a truly exciting event. David has a wealth of experience and has specially organised this free talk open to all students after pulling out of an engagement at the Oxford Union. There will be an opportunity ask questions and there will also be photos, drinks and nibbles after the event. The event is free and open to everyone.
