On Monday I will embark on an adventure. I had a lot of support to get this opportunity and I do not forget what each and every person did to help me get this far. While I am waiting for the formality of paperwork, I do know that I will be teaching again. In fact, I will be teaching 3rd grade in Oakland, CA starting this coming Monday. I have spent a lot of time this week preparing with my new colleagues, principal, and support staff. If that made me unavailable to some, I am sorry, but once I found out that I was going to be teaching, I stopped everything to resume the career I LOVE! My classroom is loaded with lots of robot decor, astronauts, and science. Without even needing to ask, I was given a classroom downstairs, so now I know my knee will endure every day. I went on a two-day retreat to Santa Cruz with my new colleagues and we spent a lot of time planning, learning, and getting to care about one another as people. I even slept in a top bunk for the first time in my life and survived! I have been working on my classroom this week, truly enjoying myself as my room has come together. My husband and son came to help today so that I would not be stressed feeling like I could not finish the essential set up in time. I have some more work to do, but the room is ready for our first day. I know I complained, vented, and cried a lot, but mostly because I was afraid of an uncertain future with my career. Life had been difficult when I felt cut off from the only career I have truly loved and from some awesome colleagues I truly valued and loved working with. Those who helped me cope, thank you is not enough. So, Im baaaaaack! I am smiling again.....and thinking like a kid. Have I ever told you how much I love teaching?
