On Monday, January 5, 2014 at approximately 2214 hours police responded to a 911 call for pedestrians struck at the intersection of 12th Ave and 40th Street in the confines of the 66th Precinct. Upon arrival police discovered a 77-year-old female pedestrian who sustained a back injury was removed by private ambulance to Lutheran Hospital in stable condition. An 81-year-old male who sustained a head injury was also removed by private ambulance to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced DOA. A preliminary investigation revealed a 37-year-old operator of a 2014 Ford SUV was traveling southbound on 12th Ave made a left turn to go eastbound on 40th Street when he struck the pedestrians while crossing 40th Street. The operator of the vehicle remained on scene. The incident is being investigated by NYPDs Collision Investigation Squad. Deceased: Lejtman, Uszer 81-year-old male 127 Princeton Rd. Elizabeth, NJ Family has been notified.
