On Monday, September 8th at 6:17 am, there was a crime reported which resulted in a homicide located at the Chase Bank at 2600 W. Michigan Street. Officers were out for hours processing the evidence at this scene. IMPD SW district wants to clarify any concerns about how we conducted business. Please keep in mind, This is a very tragic event that is an ongoing investigation. Let me explain our procedures at this difficult scene. At IMPD bodies are not covered due to evidence collection. The police officers tried to block the view the best they could with their vehicles. The Crime Lab completes the entire scene before the body is removed by the coroner. We need to investigate the entire scene to have all the evidence we can to solve this crime accurately. We know that evidence will be gone once we leave the scene. Our mission is to protect the citizens of Indianapolis. We strive to complete the investigation as quickly as possible. As part of police officers’ duties, they are called to scenes like this and others. Several officers were positioned at the scene during this entire investigation to maintain the scene until the Crime Lab can finish. They work with the same officers everyday and often have conversations with each other. When officers are posted at crime scenes, the perception can be officers don’t care. No disrespect is meant by their conversations or gathering at this scene. To the community we serve this can be a very disturbing site. Please accept our apologies. If you have any further questions at any time, please feel free to contact me. Thank you. Lori L.
