On November 20, 2014, President Obama announced an executive action which would allow parents of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who have been in the country since January 1,2010 to request deferred action and employment authorization for three years. This executive action is not expected to go into effect until about 6 months after the announcement. For most undocumented immigrants who tend to live off the grid, it will be quite difficult proving physical presence in the U.S. since Jan. 1, 2010. For immigrants lacking official documents such as bank statements, paystubs, etc, they will have to get creative in proving their physical presence via things like Social Media posts, gym membership & attendance, etc.
