On November 21st, Veterans residing on Garden View (commonly referred to as 3AG), a Community Living Center on the Canandaigua VAMC campus, invited the VA community to the grand opening of their “Mancave.” Spearheading this project, Nurse Manager, Connie Eddy, felt that the all-male neighborhood would benefit from both a relaxing and entertaining space to call their own. The dubbed “Mancave” has an electric fireplace, a flat screen television for sports games, a pinball machine, a table top for cooking and preparing tailgate items, a basketball hoop, an area for chess or poker, lounge areas and even a space for wood working. Among the NY sports memorabilia and banners, numerous signs created by the Sign Shop on campus adorn the walls along with a mounted deer head. There is also an engine on order placed by the Engineering department for the guys to work on. When asked by a female employee about the presence of women in the Mancave, one Veteran responded saying “of course the ladies are always welcome!”
