On November 3, 2014, LPPD responded to the Acme Market located at 2761 Ridge Pike for a theft of a purse from a shopping cart. The victim had left her purse in the cart while she loaded groceries into her vehicle. Several witnesses observed the theft, gave chase, and captured the suspect in the parking lot. The suspect was turned over to police and identified as Michael F. Riley II from 2000 block of Murray Street, Philadelphia, PA. On November 29, 2014, a female customer shopping at the Giant Food Store located at 2670 Egypt Road reported a purse stolen from her shopping cart while inside the store. On December 1, 2014, a female customer was shopping with her husband at the Acme Market located at 2761 Ridge Pike when a male ripped the purse from her shoulder and fled the store. The husband chased the suspect, captured him a short distance away, and turned him over to police. The suspect was identified as Daniel C. Catania from the 1000 block of S. Park Avenue in Lower Providence Township. An LPPD investigation revealed that Catania also committed the November 29th purse theft from Giant Food Store. LPPD would like to thank those citizens that assisted in these arrests. Its events like these that prove law enforcement is most successful when the police and community work together.
