On November 8 we gathered at the Lakeland Presbyterian Assisted Living Center and presented 38 QOVs to 38 deserving World War II veterans. One (and I believe he was the oldest attendee) served 30 missions, was a POW for 3 years and received the purple heart. And we had WOMEN veterans who were not nurses or clerks! Please click on the group photo so you can see ALL of the veterans. The Florida Commandant of the Order of the Purple Heart was the guest speaker, who is a purple heart recipient Marine who served in Viet Nam. The quilts were provided by quilters all over the State of Florida. Over 90 people from the Center were in attendance. We were served refreshments after the 2 pm presentation that was over around 4 pm. The Greatest Nation was in full attendance and were very appreciative of the quilts. Some had never been told We thank you for your service. So the next time you see someone sporting a ball cap that says he/she served, please take the time that will only take 3 seconds out of your busy day to say Thank you for your service. The Greatest Generation is disappearing at the rate of 1,000/week. So get out there and do your DUTY to thank these ladies and gentlemen.
