On Oct. 9, 1927, members of St. James Lutheran Church in Concord gathered for a special ceremony to lay the cornerstone of the new building, the church’s third. In the photo at top, a donkey-driven cart delivers the cornerstone to the construction site. At bottom, the congregation gathers around the structure for the service. Visible to the left in these photos is the 1911 post office building, which was demolished in 1967. Thanks to Jim Summers, curator of St. James Lutheran Church’s history room, for sharing these photos. See these photos and 264 more Snapshots of Cabarrus Past at bit.ly/1kl7iIk.
