On October 12, 2000 the USS Cole was attacked by terrorist, I was young and determined to do what I could for the nation to prevent more attacks from taking place. I answered the call to serve and on October 26, 2000 I left home placed college on hold to begin my journey in the United States Navy. After less than a year after graduating basic training on September 11, 2001 the nation was under attacked and we headed into war. I remember being onboard the USS John F. Kennedy CV67 at the hour of the attack. Although I like so many others was nervous and uncertain of what would happen next, I joined tens of thousands of brothers and sisters in arms to head to foreign lands to stop anymore attacks to from happening on America soil. It has now been 14 years, and as I reflect on the time that I spent with the brave men and women who did not have to but stood up anyway and agreed to fight for the lives of millions of people who they would never know. Looking back at the time at sea on multiple deployments, and the long challenging months I spent in combat zones somewhere in my mind I know it was all worth it. Greater men than me died helping to defend our freedom and way of life. Being there reminded me of the reality of what war creates and why so many others fear facing it. On this Veterans day, dont just take advantage of being off work or out of school. Take the time to appreciate those who have served. They have given more of themselves than you may ever care to comprehend, so be sure to thank them for their service. To all my brothers and sisters that still represents, or has represented our nations cloth...from one veteran to another Happy Veterans Day!
