On October 16th, 2014 at approximately 8:40 pm, deputies responded to the Buckeye Apartments to what was initially reported as a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a female victim suffering a gunshot wound to the right facial area. Medical aid was being given to the victim as deputies proceeded to locate the suspect. Deputies discovered the suspect deceased, later identified as Terrel Joe Laprarie, Jr., 36 of 4 Sherry Lane, Deville, LA, on the upstairs outside porch area, an apparent victim of a self inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies secured the scene an continued to render medical aid to the victim until Deville Volunteer Fire Department first responders arrived along with Acadian Ambulance. The female victim, identified as Theresa Ann Johnson, 39 of Deville, was transported to a local hospital where she passed away earlier today. RPSO Detectives and Crime Scene responded to the scene and conducted their investigation through the early morning hours of Friday. Investigators from the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office and Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office also responded to assist. Detectives initial findings indicate Laprarie, Jr. shot the victim at the top of the stairs and then turn the weapon on himself. The investigation is continuing as Detectives work to determine a motive of this shooting.
