On October 18, 1939, my mother, her younger sister and parents left Riga Latvia to begin a one-year journey to North America - Sweden, Russia by Trans-Siberian Railway, Japan, then a Japanese liner across the Pacific to Seattle. They were among the few Jews allowed refuge in Canada = this with the help of heroic CPR agent Mark Sorensen.
