On October 19, 2014, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Xi Zeta Omega Chapter, will host its 2014 Youth Service Awards Ceremony entitled, Changing Our Communities One Life at a Time, at 2:00 PM at the Watha T. Daniel Library, 1630 7th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001. The library is located a few blocks from the Shaw-Howard Metro Station. We will recognize youth and youth-serving organizations that provide service and support to youth in Washington, DC. This is an exciting opportunity to spotlight the exceptional work of our youth service leaders and to trumpet their efforts to help transform lives and local communities. We hope that you can assist us in identifying youth who are actively engaged in championing social justice and human rights efforts (e.g., work combating homelessness, domestic abuse, human trafficking, or work supporting children of incarcerated parents, the arts, or any service activity that seeks to achieve equality/human rights for others) through service. Specifically, we request that you nominate two (2) exemplary students (grades 9-12) who have exhibited a strong commitment to service over the course of the past school year for consideration as a 2014 Youth Service Award recipient. Every day America’s young people are making a difference in the fight for social justice and equality for all. We are excited to honor these outstanding young people for their dedicated community service. Attached you will find a recommendation form with instructions that must be completed to ensure that your student nominee(s) is considered for recognition at this event. All information (completed form and supplemental information) is due (via email) by Friday, October 3, 2014. Selected students will be notified during the Youth Service Awards Ceremony on October 19, 2014. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Alison McNeil, 2014 Youth Service Awards Co-Chair, via email at mcneil908@yahoo or by phone on (301) 512-3642.
