On October 2, President Barack Obama issued a presidential proclamation declaring October 3, 2014 National Manufacturing Day. Across the country, manufacturers opened their doors to educate and inspire our youth to pursue careers in manufacturing and engineering. Students from Charlestown High School, Jeffersonville High School, and New Washington High School toured several Southern Indiana manufacturing companies such as Amatrol, S&J Precision, and Owings Patterns. National Manufacturing Day was a wonderful opportunity for students, especially those in the engineering or manufacturing career pathway, to see a manufacturing business in operation and tie this to their pathway. The mission of the GCCS College & Career Readiness Initiative is that every student in our district will graduate prepared for and accepted to a post-secondary opportunity (four-year college, two-year college, apprenticeship, military, etc.). The four career pathways include Business/IT/Logistics, Health Care/Related Science, Human Services/Education/Law/The Arts, and Engineering/Manufacturing/Technology/Skilled Trades. Visit readiness.gcs.k12.in.us for more information about the initiative!
