On October 26th, I’m bringing clean water to those that don’t have it. No, I won’t be literally digging a well but I am racing to raise money for the Gazelle Foundation—a non-profit that builds clean water systems for the villagers of Burundi, Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world. I am stunned that many people still lack something as basic as access to clean water. I am also saddened that this deficit leads to tragic loss in health, income and education for these people. Imagine having to walk four miles each way to get water for the daily needs of your family, missing the opportunity to work. Or worse, relying on your child to collect the water instead of being in school. It’s an uphill battle in Burundi where 80% of the population suffers from water-borne illnesses, leaving half of them hospitalized and nearly a quarter of their infants dead. But the Gazelle Foundation is building hope and I want to play a part. With my Run for the Water race registration, I am already providing one Burundian with clean drinking water—for life. I am also fundraising to bring greater awareness to this cause and provide money for additional water projects. I ask you to consider joining me in this campaign. What can you do to help? Just $25 gives a Burundian access to clean water. A $100 donation gives one Burundian family access to clean water—for life, so please give what you can. With our efforts, children can return to school, women can return to work and Burundi’s economy can continue to grow.
