On October 29, 2013 at approximately 10:45 pm the Lakota Ambulance Service and the Lakota Fire Department were paged to a one vehicle rollover approximately 1.5 miles east of Lakota, North Dakota. Upon arrival on scene the crew found a pickup resting on the drivers side in the crossover which appeared to have rolled several times. Several feet away from the pickup lay its driver, a 34 year old male unknown to the responders at that time. What the responders did know was that he was in a life threatening situation and that he was barely breathing and exhibiting what is known as agonal respirations. They also knew that they were going to do everything in their power to save this man and immediately it was decided that he would most likely not survive a trip to the nearest trauma center (Grand Forks) in the shape that he was in and the decision to call for Lifeflight, intercept with Lake Region Ambulance, and a trauma code called at Mercy Hospital was made. Responders got on to the business of assisting his breathing, stabilizing his C-spine and securing him to a backboard simultaneously as the calls for assistance were made and emergent transport was initiated..........while we didnt know this patient personally, we knew that we had done everything possible to keep this patient alive and that he had a hard battle ahead with what appeared to be a significant brain injury.......... What we didnt know was that this patient had an incredible will to live and a host of prayer warriors and family to gather around him. What we didnt know was where this patient would be today, a year after his terrible accident.......... Thank you Nathan Schatz for being the fighter that you are and for showing us that there is a reason for us to continue fighting to keep an ambulance service in our community~~~ https://youtube/watch?v=XOfKZPB97hU Doris Karas Curt Kadrmas Levi Reese Doug Lawson
