On October 3, 2014, Hopkinsville Police were dispatched to check the welfare of two people passed out in a car on the parking lot of 1120 North Main Street. When police arrived they came in contact with 52 year old Charles Wayne Smith and 50 year old Sherry Marlene Austin, both of Hopkinsville, and they both were passed out in a vehicle on the parking lot and had to be awakened by police. Once awakened by police, both Smith and Austin were allegedly determined to be under the influence of narcotics and both were placed under arrest. Search incident to arrest yielded a Hydrocodone pill and a Oxycodone pill in Smiths front pocket. A search of the vehicle yielded more Hydrocodone pills that Smith told police belonged to him. During a search incident to arrest of Austin, police found 18 Oxycodone pills mixed with 7 Hydrocodone pills in an unlabeled pill container. Also located in Austins purse was a pill grinder with pill residue and two plastic straws with white powder residue. Both were charged with Public Intoxication and 2nd Degree Possession of Controlled Substance. Smith also received the charge of 1st Degree Possession of Controlled Substance, while Austin received the additional charges of 1st Degree Trafficking Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
