On October 4: 1967: A Wednesday: Went by car with my father from Mars, PA, to Cleveland. Went to the top of the Terminal Tower. Then got back on the Ohio Turnpike, westbound. The first game of the World Series started, Red Sox v Cardinals. My father was listening and thus only going 55-60 on a 70 MPH turnpike. We were planning to cut southwest on US 24 from Toledo to Fort Wayne, IN. My father asked if we could stay on the Turnpike all the way into Indiana. I said we could get off at the first exit on the Indiana Toll Road and go straight south to Fort Wayne. When we got off, we were only a mile from the Michigan border. So I suggested we visit Michigan that day, even though we were supposed to go the next day. We did, then headed for Fort Wayne. Our motel reservation was only for 6 PM (actually they usually give half an hour grace and then you only lose the room if someone else wanted it), and it looked like we would have trouble making it. My father said it was because of the short side trip to Michigan, I said it was because he listened to the baseball game. It turned out it did not matter. At that time, Indiana did not observe Daylight Savings Time, so it was an hour earlier than we thought, and we got there in plenty of time. We stayed at the Motel Wayne.
