On Poets and Others by Octavio Paz, one of the most erudite - TopicsExpress

On Poets and Others by Octavio Paz, one of the most erudite literary minds of Mexico and of international interest, I found the short essays On Poets and Others to be an exploration of the sub-terrain of our consciousness. Paz states in this peculiar little book, for example, America is a European dream. Talking on Walt Whitman, he said the poet in a sense was a democratic dream with substance or one might say, the walking dream. I especially like this intense book for its simplicity that arches over the beacon of pure intellect. His interview with Robert Frost a native to San Francisco, is like warming your hands next to an open pot-bellied stove. Frost first gained notoriety in England before the U.S. came to comprehend the scope of his mind and vision of the individual seeing the world with his own eyes and not the eyes of others. I gave away my last copy...to my chagrin but will re-order the book and hang onto it.It is worth reading several times!
